Renmin University of China is known for supporting diversity, the university counts with more than 50 different nationalities between their current students. The institution promotes cross-cultural activities all over campus, to the extent of planning off-campus trips and activities for international students, but what we fail to mention is, how far Renmin University will go to support international students to reach our personal goals as well.

As an International Student, allow me to introduce my personal experience at Renmin University. I am from the Dominican Republic and have played basketball since I was 14 years old; In 2019 an odd dream to take a break from professionalism to pursue an IMBA Degree at Business School, Renmin University of China (RMBS) crossed my mind and became true. While following my dream another one floured up, On October 2019, I was asked to participate in a Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in Edmonton, Canada. Which created a huge conflict with my current classes and assignments, participating in the tournament was a huge decision to make because the games overlapped my responsibilities and even a mid-term. Here at RMBS, as a full-time student, class attendance is extremely important, and everyone takes it seriously.

Once I expressed my desire to the RMBS department to represent my country, they decided to support me and my participation in the tournament. My professors were willing to work a way around the absences and the International Students Dean signed my absence form without a doubt.

Participating in this tournament showed me that we do not need to limit ourselves to be good at one thing, besides other people’s stereotypes we as human are allowed to try and fulfill our dreams in every different aspect of our lives. I feel grateful that the RMBS allowed me to go to the tournament to represent my country, it was an amazing experience to see my old teammates and that they could recognize the effort of my university to show me support in such opportunity.

Thank you RMBS.
